Becoming a positive person can be difficult in a world that consistently brings us challenges, suffering, and anguish. The more that we succumb to the world’s problems the more harm we do to ourselves.
Our daily thoughts are more powerful than we can imagine. We have approximately 1,000 thoughts each day. If we partake in developing more negative thoughts, we will manifest negative situations in our lives. Frequently, some of these negative thoughts will indicate a red flag or something that we need to pay attention to. We need to ask ourselves, “What do I need to do in my life to change it for the better?” Once we embrace the red flag of negative thoughts, we can let them go. What happens if we don’t?
Negative thoughts can begin to interfere with different aspects of our lives such as our careers, health, relationship, and our spirituality. If most of our daily thoughts are obsessed with fear, we may turn to addictive behaviors. If the main emotion of our thoughts centers around anger, we may have an angry outburst, have irrational thoughts, or have destructive behavior.
How can we turn our behavior into having more positive thoughts on a daily basis?
1. What degree do I like myself today?
We start by becoming aware of what we think about ourselves. You can do this by answering the question, “What degree do I like myself today?” Think of a scale from 1 degree to 10 degrees with 10 degrees being the most positive. Then, ask yourself, “What emotion should I add?”
Example:
To what degree do I like myself today? (3 degrees) What emotion? (hateful)
Keep a daily journal while completing this exercise and with this new information, you will be able to discover so much more about yourself.
2. Become Aware of Your Thoughts
In your journal, describe 5 thoughts that you had today. How did you feel with each thought? What area of your life will it make better or worse if you have this continuing thought?
3. Complete Mirror Techniques
Louise Hay has written a book, Mirror Work, on how to heal your life in 21 days. Here is one Mirror Technique exercise that you can complete daily.
· Stare into your eyes while looking into a mirror.
· Verbalize out loud who you want to be or what you want to do.
· Give yourself a pep-talk & embrace your emotions.
4. Complete daily affirmations.
Example:
· I believe in my abilities and myself.
· I can face this day and its challenges with strength.
· I let go of my fears, anxieties, and negative thoughts.
· I am filled with hope.
Changing our daily thoughts to more positive ones is not an easy task. Forgive yourself during those difficult days, thoughts, and situations. After the difficult day, tell yourself that tomorrow is another day. By discovering and learning about your daily thoughts, you can change your negative cycle and make these positive thoughts into a habit. As a result, the chemistry in your brain will change. The world will become a better place. Yes, it is up to you to change your thoughts! Are you ready for the challenge?
